Miners' strike movement in the USSR (1988-1991) as the expression of social selforganization: stages of historical development

The author explores the actual theme - the resources and manifestations of the labor movement in a “perestroika” years in the USSR. The causes of beginning of the strike movement in the mining regions of the USSR (1988-1989) are studied. Organizational forms and practices of the independent workers' movement, its economic and social and political slogans are established. Elucidated system transformation of the strike the workers' movement in the conditions of disintegration of the USSR, in the context of market-oriented reforms. Assess the low degree of influence on the democratic opposition movement on miners. The tendencies of development of theme's historiography in Russian historical science are discovered. It was concluded that weak heuristic utility of the class approach to explaining the goals of the strike movement in the mining regions of the USSR, a preference of conflict-oriented paradigm and deprivation theory. The decline of the independent labor movement was due to reformatting basic social cleavages, the weakness of the labor movement's resources.
