“two people in a room”: category of space in Harold Pinter’s dramatic works

This paper deals with the category of space which is considered as one of the basic principles of the artistical organization of Pinter’s dramatic works. Acting space in his plays has an overside being a field of literary games. Moreover, intertextual links in absurdist plays serve only as references to actual literal contexts but also as indexes of the metatheatrical code. This work mostly deals with H. Pinter’s early plays. However, conclusions are made with сonsideration of dynamics of forms of space in his dramatic world. The main conclusion is the statement about gradual progression of absurd component and elements of the metatheatrical code.
