В статье анализируется попытка усиления политических позиций британских торговцев-монополистов, плантаторов и финансистов в конце первой и начале второй половины XVIII в. Материал статьи отражает исторические оценки роли крупного капитала в принятии политических решений в Великобритании. Отдельным предметом анализа является связь политических целей торгово-финансовой элиты и экономической конъюнктуры в период обострения конкуренции в международной морской торговле.
