The article discusses the features of the classical interpretation of the ideas of George Herbert Mead. Traditionally, he is often called the founder of the symbolic interactionism, although it is quite controversial. The author refers to the problems of this interpretation and defines the social and historical context of its origin, stressing the importance of developing alternative interpretations for the actualization of the sociological classics.
