The article addresses the issue of implementing a unified approach to historical knowledge in the context of the national strategic priority of the Russian Federation by creating a unified history textbook. The principle of preserving historical memory, implemented in the creation of such a textbook, is investigated. The aim of the article is to analyze the relevance of a unified history textbook as a means of countering destructive ideologies that influence the youth's mindset. The article notes that in the context of the information war between Russia and the West, the issue of protecting historical memory from the falsification of history becomes increasingly urgent, and one way to address this challenge is to ensure the accessibility of reliable primary sources. The author argues that national unified history textbooks, reflecting a coherent and scientifically substantiated concept of Russia’s historical past, are designed to cultivate critical thinking regarding current events and to foster a sense of patriotism and civic responsibility among the youth. The principle of preserving historical truth is enshrined in several decrees by the President of the Russian Federation, including the Presidential Decree No. 314 of May 8, 2024, “On Approving the Foundations of State Policy of the Russian Federation in the Field of Historical Education”, which establishes a unified approach to teaching history in secondary schools. The author concludes that the state is undertaking extensive efforts to preserve historical memory, aimed at preventing the falsification of history in the field of school historical education.
