The article highlights the life and professional path of a prominent organizer, talented teacher, public figure of Buryatia Valentina Vladimirovna Gaponenko (1944-2007). Her contribution to the provision and development of higher education in museum studies at East Siberian state institute of culture (ESSIC) is considered and characteristics of her research and public activities are given.
