The factors of desocialization of the individual in places of deprivation of liberty: towards the problem of effectiveness of criminal punishment

The paper analyzes the social problems that arise in the process of criminal punishment. The object of the study is the desocialization of individuals during the period of serving a sentence in prison. The subject of the study is the factors contributing to the deepening of the desocialization. The research objectives are to consider the main problems that arise in the process of serving a sentence in places of deprivation of liberty; to identify the main criteria for the effectiveness of criminal punishment and the process of execution of punishment from the point of view of the public interests. According to the results obtained, it is concluded that certain steps of the state in the field of the reform of the enforcement of criminal sentences do not bring significant results. In this case, the decisive factor is the absence in Russia of a system to compensate for the effects of desocialization in places of deprivation of liberty that significantly increases the problem of relapse of crimes. A number of proposals are being made to formulate appropriate measures.
