Factors controlling manganese geochemistry in marine sediments

Based on analytical data from A. S. Astakhov’s monograph (2001), five factors, controlling the manganese geochemistry in marine sediments are outlined and discussed. These factors are: provenance, climate, topofacies, diagenesis and submarine hydrotherms. It is emphasized that natural factorial system (expressed graphically), has a complex hierarchical structure: several high-rank factors act as independent one from others, whereas some low-rank factors are more or less correlated.
