Article presents the analysis of the latest scientific studies of motivation for treatment and coping strategies in patients with chronic viral hepatitis C (HCV). Main factors influencing low motivation for treatment are stigmatization, stress associated with information about the disease, anxiety and depression symptoms, awareness of the danger, expectations about the effectiveness of treatment and the severity of side effects. Stigma, stress, high level of anxiety and depression contribute to the refusal to seek medical attention. Emotional support from the family, self-help groups contribute to the decision to start treatment. An important factor that increases the motivation for treatment is the provision of patients with information about the disease by medical staff, a high level of compliance with practitioners. The effectiveness of educational programs for patients is shown.
