The article deals with the fantastic space in the story “Steppe” by A.P. Chekhov and its relationship with reality. There is conducted the analysis of such methods of imagination as the crossing of the signs of the different objects, the appearance and disappearance of the objects, the multiplication of objects, etc. The steppe is essentially a separate world, where illusion and reality touch and it is not always possible to separate them clearly.
