Pharmacogenetics of tardive dyskinesia

This review presents the analysis of pharmacogenetic studies of tardive dyskinesia secondary to the prolonged antipsychotic therapy in schizophrenic patients. The main pharmacogenetic investigations of drug-induced tardive dyskinesia are conducted to identify the association with gene polymorphism of xenobiotic metabolism system, neurotransmitter receptors and oxidative stress system. Identification of gene polymorphism association with the risk of antipsychotic-induced movement disorders in schizophrenic patients can be used to create the personalized therapy technologies.
