The article discusses the phenomenon of the kamikaze, its Genesis and essence in the aspect of the military history of feudal Japan. This is given in the context of the religious teachings of Shinto, according to which the country is a divine creation, i.e. it is created by truly national deities - Kami. The origin of the phenomenon in the work is shown on the basis of the detailed description of such historic fact as the Mongolian invasion of Japan in the XIII century. It became possible due to "divine reunion” of Kami and Kaze - the improbable force of sea wind (hurricane) which twice struck crushing blow on the military fleet of Mongols during the sea fights. It is also noted that the attempt to revive the kamikaze spirit failed in militaristic Japan at the end of World War II.
