Youth phenomenon: definition and main characteristics

Youth is one of the most important periods in the life of any person. This is the time, when young people are searching for their own identity, forming beliefs and values. Youth is an important component of any society. Everyone agrees that the future of every country depends on the youth. However, in sociology there is no single definition of the term ‘youth’. Moreover, there are no generally recognized time limits that would frame this concept. Studies of youth problems show that the most important issues for today's youth are financial status / income, career, family, stability, freedom, etc. Opinion polls prove that economic, social and educational issues are more important for young people than political ones. Sociologists are trying to find the reasons for the low political activity of young people. There is an opinion that many young people aspire to take part in public and political life, but do not have information about where and how they can do it. It is obvious that the consciousness of young people will be raised if they are involved in the decision-making process concerning themselves. Despite the fact that educational institutions are trying to involve young people in various activities, the main factor influencing social and political activity is the interest of a person.
