The paper reviews fibulae of the Early Roman period found at the sites of the sedentary population attributed to the Late Zarubintsy cultural and chronological horizon in the Dnieper forest-steppe Left Bank region and the Khoper river as well as the Late Scythian archaeological culture in the Upper Don region. It was found that the period when the Late Zarubintsy population lived side by side with the Late Scythian population can be defined broadly as the middle of the 1st-2nd centuries and narrowly as the second half of the 2nd century. Sets of fibulae point to various contacts with areas outside the studied region, for example, the Late Scythian set points to contacts with the North Pontic region and Sarmatians, while the Late Zarubintsy set demonstrates that this population maintained links with other cultural groups of this horizon, Central Europe, and maybe, Southeastern Baltics region. It seems that there were no close contacts between contemporary Late Zarubintsy groups and the Late Scythian population inhabiting the Upper Don region, though this conclusion needs to be verified based on other materials as well.
