The article deals with problems of teaching philosophy and fundamental scientific disciplines in higher and secondary vocational education system. Based on the paradigm of a holistic worldview, actively developed by the renowned Russian philosopher Valery. A. Balkhanov, we address the issues of strengthening the educational foundations, declared one of the main areas of development in Russian education at the beginning of the century. But in fact, this area is extremely under-implemented in educational institutions, since they are largely focused on the goals and objectives of applied education. Drawing on the experience of Russian higher education development and the arguments of researchers and practitioners, we conclude that there is no alternative to professional training of modern specialists on the basis of a comprehensive set of fundamental humanities and natural sciences, as well as philosophy as a form of rational worldview.
