The study examines the issue of artistic freedom through the lens of non-classical and post-non-classical philosophy, focusing primarily on Russian and Soviet culture – literature and art. The aim of the study is to search for a reference point for the new creative subject based on the methodologies of existentialism, schizoanalysis, and Marxist philosophy. Thus, the scope of freedom in artistic creativity is delineated, ranging from extreme subjectivism to external causation by the objective conditions of society. It is emphasized that the novelty of the article lies in the “truncated understanding of freedom”, which is linked to the conditions of its unfolding as objective boundaries. Particular attention is paid to the author’s position that the absence of external teleology is not yet a guarantee of genuine freedom; on the contrary, the preservation of external goals and external causality constitutes a condition for the creative freedom of the individual, which corresponds to the spirit and methodology of Marxist philosophy.
