The philosophical underpinnings of autonomy in higher education

The article discusses the problem of autonomy in higher education. The philosophical underpinnings of personal autonomy are presented within the context of today's higher education in Russia. The notion of autonomy is analyzed versus the notion of freedom. The need in making emphasis on the development of positive type of autonomy in modern university teachers and students is proved in the article.
