The article deals with an important aspect of the religious, philosophical and theological heritage of the priest Pavel Florensky. In this aspect, his understanding of freedom in spiritual life and in human creativity is revealed. Attention is drawn to the relevance for the beginning of the twentieth century of the formulation of the problem of freedom and creativity, which took place in the works of N. A. Berdyaev. The evidence of the perception of this problem in the works of Florensky is given. It is noted that Florensky’s interpretation of genuine creativity is connected with his desire to overcome the subjective factor in the spiritual life of a person, which he regarded as a departure from the reality given by God and confirmed by universal human experience. The main conclusion is that Florensky, unlike Berdyaev, revealed the presence of manifestations of higher creativity in the “historical” Orthodox Church.
