The article is devoted to the philosophical interpretation of the mask in the novel by W. Gowling "The Lord of the Flies" and the story of V.Zheleznikov "The Scarecrow". The mask plays a dual role in the works of literature. The image of the mask acts as a recognizable and generalized symbol, the reception of difficult identification. The author hides the personality of the heroes under the mask to express their thoughts.
