Finnish department of Karelian radio committee in 1930s: characteristic features of its activity

Based on the materials of the National archives of the Republic of Karelia, the impact of the “finnization” policy on the work of the radio broadcasting company working on the territory of the Republic was revealed. The majority of workers of the Radio committee, including administrative authorities, were emigrants of Finnish origin from Finland, USA and Canada. The programs, developed by the working emigrants, covered the biggest part of the broadcasting time. They also differed a lot from the Russian radio programs by less amount of propaganda. Most of the programs developed by the Finnish department of Karelian radio committee were devoted to the lifestyle and customs of Finland. Such policy resulted in liquidation of the Finnish broadcasting department and subsequent arrests of the Finnish workers during repressions.
