The role of decorative flowering shrubs in the landscape design of the urban environment is significant and multifaceted. By releasing biologically active substances into the environment that have antibacterial, protistocidal, antifungal properties, flowering shrubs create a favorable microclimate of the urban area, reduce gas pollution and dustiness, and have noise-insulating features. High decorative and artistic value, which consists of a wide range of colors of foliage and aromas and the brightness of flowers, a different and long flowering period, given by forms, has a beneficial effect on the psycho-emotional state of a person, relieving stress. But, in turn, the urban environment, being a powerful stressor for the biocenosis, has a detrimental effect on flowering shrubs, reducing their decorative effect, attractiveness, productivity, reduces the resistance of plants to damage by pests, phytopathogens, and makes them vulnerable to the effects of abiotic factors. The monitoring of phytopathological and entomological objects in plantations of flowering shrubs in an urban environment made it possible to identify the most common diseases and harmful insects. Our studies have shown that no pests were recorded on the plants of Chaenomeles japonica, Mahonia aquifolium, Physocarpus opulifolius, Potentilla fruticose , and Sorbaria Sorbifolia; Chaenomeles japonica, Physocarpus opulifolius and Sorbaria Sorbifolia were not affected by disease. Flowering shrubs were less resistant to pests in the urban environment: Syringa vulgaris, Syringa josikaea, Syringa velutina . Analysis of the growth and development of flowering shrubs, damage by pests and diseases, ornamental qualities made it possible to assess the general state of life and rank them according to the prospects for use in an urban environment. Promising species in urban floristry in terms of a set of indicators are: Berberis thunbergii, Chaenomeles japonica, Lonicera caprifolium, Physocarpus opulifolius, Philadelphus coronaries, Sorbaria Sorbifolia, Syringa velutina , and Weigela florida .
