Phonetic adaptation of the Russian borrowings in the Tver Karelian

Бесплатный доступ

The article is devoted to the analysis of phonetic adaptation of the lexicon borrowed from Russian in the Tver dialects of Karelian vernacular of the Karelian language (tolmachy, vesyegonsk, dyorzha). The conditions of the centuries-old close neighborhood of the Karelian population of the studied region with Russian, as well as its further bilingualism, couldn’t but affect the language of Tver Karelians. As the result of language contacts a large number of borrowings came from Russian into all dialects. One of the aspects of a borrowed word assimilation is its phonetic adaptation covering both the system of vowels and the system of consonants acting in the beginning, in the middle and in the end of the word.
