The article presents the results of empirical testing of several theoretical hypotheses about the peculiarities of the relationship between formal economic institutions and the economic culture of modern Russia. The authors turn to the legacy of Russian social philosophy and economic theory of the XIX - early XX centuries and attempt to verify the opinion that has developed within the framework of Russian socio-economic science of the classical period about the low degree of legitimacy of economic law in the views of the Russian population during empirical research. The results of an empirical study indicate a restrained attitude of the Russian economically active population to the practical implementation of certain norms of economic law that organize economic activity in our country. At the same time, a number of. features of Russian economic culture, characterized by social philosophers of the century before last as invariant, do not manifest themselves in it today. There is reason to believe that such changes in the peripheral layers of the value structure of Russians are a consequence of the profound transformations that Russian society underwent during the XIX-XX centuries.
