The article discusses the problems of forming medical intelligentsia in Tuva, which became part of the USSR in 1944. We have analyzed the reasons, conditions and special aspects of this process, as well as the ways of forming medical intelligentsia and local labour. These ways were the placement of doctors and other medical specialists from neighboring regions to Tuva, the training of Tuvan youth in medical universities and secondary specialized educational institutions of Siberia, and open local medical school, which prepared semiskilled specialists. People with knowledge of pre-Soviet medicine were also involved. We have analyzed the development of a network of medical institutions, their supply with the necessary equipment and tools, traced the growth of the number of medical personnel, placement of medical specialists to rural areas, improvement of the professional and qualification structure, mastering new methods in diagnostics and treatment. It is emphasized that medical workers possess high spiritual and moral qualities, corresponding to traditional assumptions about the intelligentsia
