The article discusses the problems of studying public opinion as one of the most important evaluation criteria for the activities of law enforcement agencies. Attention is drawn to the various stages of reforming the system of evaluating the activities of law enforcement agencies, as well as to the problems arising in the process of studying public opinion, and the influence of various objective and subjective factors on its results. In particular, it is noted that the law enforcement activities of the internal affairs bodies cover such a wide range of citizens that even with the effective work of police officers, there is a high probability of negative assessments due to the presence of people with problems with the law among the respondents. In this regard, it is hardly advisable to absolutize the importance of public opinion polls in the process of evaluating the activities of internal affairs bodies. At the same time, despite all the difficulties and problems, public opinion, of course, continues to be one of the most important evaluation criteria for the activities of internal affairs bodies, and one of the priority management tasks of managers at all levels is the formation of a positive attitude of the population to the activities of subordinate services and departments.
