Development of cognitive interest of sport university students to the hospitality industry

In the context of Russia being a host of significant sports events (the World University Games in Kazan in 2013, the Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi in 2014), it is important to develop skills and abilities to use hotel services technologies of students majoring in physical education. With this purpose in view scientists of the Institute of Sports and Physical Education has developed a course “History and current state of the hospitality industry”, which introduces students to the history and origin, development and formation of the modern state of the hotel industry. The course includes problem lectures, allowing the students to analyze the interference of sport and tourism; to consider in detail the problem situations showing the influence of mass sporting events on the quality of services provided to the fans and athletes. To create a situation encouraging the cognitive interest of the students to the content of the special course the teachers apply the following techniques: wide use of the novelty facts; demonstration of social and personal importance of knowledge and skills; organization of independent creative work, mutual teaching and mutual control; introduction of theoretical material in the form of diagrams.
