The study deals with the rise of the first state in Uaxactun, i.e. one of majorpolitical centers in the Maya central lowlands. The research of its architectural sites, residential areas and epigraphy has been going on since 1916. Particularly significantresults have been achieved by the Slovak Archaeological and Historical Institute (since2009). The excavations and analysis of Preclassic Group F and Group H have shed lighton the early stage of Uaxactun history, i. e. the development period of the early stateinstitutions. New data were obtained by the author of the paper during redocumentation ofUaxactun epigraphic sites discovered in the 20th century. Analysis of the data on the EarlyUaxactun history demonstrates that it became an important political center of the regionas early as the 4th century BC. In the 1st-2nd centuries AD the institution of kingship wasalready well established; first sites with inscriptions appeared; monumental constructionwas under way; so signs of the early state were all in place. But around 150 AD Uaxactunwent into political decline and did not recover as a state until the early 4th century.
