Psychological and pedagogical competence of a teacher is the main condition of maintaining potential possibilities of children with mental retardation. Delicacy, tactfulness, readiness to help a child in his studies (within educational and cognitive activities), in understanding the reasons of success and failures are really important. The child may understand his potential possibilities that promote to his confidence, and «wakes up the energy of his achievements”. The basic tasks of the psychological enlightening of teachers are finding the “weak” and “strong” sides of child's self-development and methods of overcoming the difficulties. The most adequate ways of co-operating with a child are frontal and individual forms of education.
