The article discusses approaches to the formation of social experience of orphan children and children left without parental care in the educational process of an orphanage. It describes the peculiarities of the content of educational work in an orphanage, identifies the components of the social experience influencing the formation of the personality of the child leaving an orphanage. A special attention is paid to the formation of financial literacy as a component of social experience.
