The article studies development and functioning of the market economy systems. It has been found that the market and its progress should be under the control of sociocultural institutions, so as by conscious planning to ensure development of the economic system in the desired direction. In this case the market actors act in accordance with the sociocultural norms (religious, ideological, legal, or other social norms), the implementation of which is under the control of sociocultural institutions with dominant status in the society.
