Development of universal learning skills in foreign-language teaching in secondary school

The article deals with the universal learning skills that should provide students with the ability to effectively learn and master the content of the school subjects. The contradiction between the approved requirements of the federal state educational standard to formation of the universal educational actions and their realization in school life is discussed. Functions and structure of these skills are presented, features of their development by the foreign-language teaching are specified. Authors set for themselves the following tasks: 1) to differentiate the concepts "universal educational actions" and "universal educational abilities"; 2) to define structure and functions of universal educational abilities; 3) to reveal features of their development when training in a foreign language. The concepts educational abilities, personal abilities, regulatory abilities, informative abilities, communicative abilities are considered.
