French argot, Russian jargon and American slang in a comparative aspect

The article focuses on the comparative analysis of French argot, Russian jargon and American slang. Their general and specific features of formation and functioning in the national language are revealed. The reasons for the widespread use of substandard vocabulary in colloquial speech are substantiated. The stylistic and word-formation characteristics of modern French argot, modern Russian jargon and modern American slang are given. The article deals with the universal and specific methods of formation. The evolution of their status and place in consciousness and speech culture are described. The analysis of functions of French argot, Russian jargon and American slang is carried out. Particular attention is paid to the emotionally expressive function of French argot, Russian jargon and American slang. A conclusion about the distinctive features of argot, jargon and slang is made using the three languages. The development trends of non-literary subsystems of differently structured languages are considered. Perspectives of further research are outlined.
