Frame semantics of cyberspace in the Russian-language media discourse

The method of frame semantics is applied to study the construction of “Cyberspace” meaning in the Russian-language media discourse. Frame semantics allows for identifying the interaction of actual linguistic meanings and underlying cognitive structures. The structure of the “Cyberspace” media frame includes obligatory and optional components that determine the principles for structuring knowledge about a new social phenomenon and ways to activate background knowledge of the Russian linguistic culture. Corpus analysis of Russian-language media texts is used to examine the filling of frame slots with specific language means considering the main thematic clusters.
