The functions of the text type "description" in fiction

This article considers pragmatic characteristics of the text text type «description»: its functions of identification, reference, axiology performed in the context of literary narration. The identifying function of the text type «description» allows to express by linguistic means the physically perceived characteristics of the real world object. The reference function belongs to two extensional types of description: description of interior and description of landscape are deictic means because they determine place and time of an event. The intensional part of descriptive text’s content expresses not only external properties of the real world object, but also its assessment and view of the speaker.
