The article deals with the functions of punctuation marks in written speech and their role in providing clarity, logic and expressiveness of the text. Punctuation is an integral element of written communication, playing a key role in text structuring and transmission of intonational and emotional nuances, which are inherent to oral speech. The use of various punctuation marks such as periods, commas, colons, semicolons and others is analyzed in the context of their influence on syntactic constructions and the general meaning of the utterance. The conclusion discusses the prospects for future research in linguistics aimed at automating punctuation in digital written communication and improving natural language processing algorithms.
