Functional characteristics of Russian pronouns in written artifacts

The article explores the status of pronominal class in the period of appearance of the written language in the Eastern Slavs. It describes the most important grammatical features of the ancient system of pronouns, the basic part of which was a deiktic category. The article reveals specific grammatical significance of the category of a person.
