Research Institute of Oncology, Rostov-na-Donu The functional state of pituitary-thyroid system was studied in 130 laryngeal cancer patients before treatment, in 8 patients after combined modality treatment in the state of remission and in 23 patients with disease recurrence. Decrease in the TTH level and reductions in T4 and T3 products were observed in most laryngeal cancer patients before treatment. Uptake of 131J was increased. Disturbance in thyroid hormone synthesis was found on the stage of oxidative condensation of iodtyrosines to thyronines. The level of thyroid hormones was gradually increased and the TTH level was not significantly changed after the combined modality treatment. For patients with laryngeal cancer recurrence, the function of pituitary-thyroid system was found to be lower than the normal limits.
