Functioning of the discourse marker вообще in the dialogic unit question-answer

Discourse markers of everyday dialogic discourse have a great functional potential. These units organize discourse, actualize pragmatic functions, mark certain meanings and transmit additional information of intentional orientation. Being included in the system of multistage pragmatic variation, discourse markers can perform both basic and auxiliary pragmatic functions and modify the invariant intentional structure. Discourse markers cover what is traditionally called: description, dialogue, narration, internal monologue, indirect speech. These units are considered to be the benchmark of textual flow and are actualized in terms of their changing relationships with each other and in relation to the source of the utterance as the point of reference. Discourse markers within the dialogic unit question-answer function in both its components - question and answer. The study of the functioning of the discourse marker вообще in the dialogic unit question-answer is carried out using the functional-pragmatic approach, which allows specifying the meaning of the discourse marker in relation to other units. The discourse marker вообще is studied in terms of functional potential, namely structural, semantic and pragmatic characteristics. Possible pragmatic meanings of the marker are actualized in context. Corpus analysis (National Corpus of the Russian Language, Leipzig University Corpus Database), contextual analysis as well as methods of classification and systematization of linguistic material are used to work with the material. The discourse marker вообще in the Russian language demonstrates isomorphic functions in the aspect of the actualization of the functional and pragmatic potential. The diversity of pragmatic functions of the markerвообще indicates the multifunctional nature of the discourse marker, dialogic unit and dialogic discourse in general.
