The functioning of sentences of identity in "Letters about the kind and beautiful" by D.S. Likhachev

Dedicated to the analysis of the functioning of the sentences of identity in the “Letters About the Kind and Beautiful” D.S. Likhachev. The functional potential of identity sentences is determined and their textual implementation is considered, namely: the positional use of these sentences in the text of “Letters...” is analyzed, their participation in the expression of the main textual categories and features is revealed. The understanding of the term “sentence of identity” is clarified, its discrepancy with the concept of “identity” is noted. The conclusion is made that the sentences of identity, which function naturally as one of the most important linguistic means of explaining concepts, correspond to the speech style of D.S. Likhachev and his purpose in letters of instruction addressed primarily to the younger generation.
