Gender as a sociocultural phenomenon

The article addresses the problem of gender definition as a sociocultural phenomenon in Russian and foreign scientific works as well as in mass media. Despite the fact that the concept of "gender" and related phenomena have become seriously studied relatively recently -in the XX century, at the moment there are many books and articles on the sociology of gender and gender stereotypes in society written by foreign and Russian scientists. However, unfortunately, a clear scientific basis for this problem does not exist until now. Most of the works continue to consider the problems of gender in terms of the differences between the sexes rather than similarities. The article uses an interdisciplinary approach to the study of this phenomenon.
