The subject of our study is to estimate gender differences in acquired valvular heart disease. In certain cases, we found that gender differences were connected to genital glands endocrinal dysfunction. In aged patients with rheumatic mitral stenosis sex ratio was 6:1 women to men. Patients with degenerative aortic stenosis require surgery at the age of 50 in men and at the age of 52 in women. Among the patients operated for the above mentioned disease, sex ratio was 1:5 men to women in middle age, and decreases to 1:1.4 in elderly. It is also revealed that in elderly, number of men with severe calcified aortic valve is 2.7 times higher, and the number of women is 9.5 times higher than in middle age. The latter we consider to be due to the postmenopause hormonal shift.
