Gender representation of young people in the field of family and marriage relations

This paper presents an analysis of an empirical studyof the peculiarities of gender representations of young people in the field of familyand marriage relations. The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of the familythat young people aged 21 to 26 give it. In the theoretical part, the concepts of family, marriage, and role functions in the family are considered. The collection of empirical data was carried out by the questionnaire method. The data were processed by methods of mathematical statistics (T-criterion for independent samples). The results of the study showed the peculiarities of ideas about family and marriage relations depend on gender. Men and women strive for the same distribution of household responsibilities, they want to take the same part in raising children and maintaining the emotional well-being of the family. Opposite opinions among men and women were revealed on the scales of “The role of a sexual partner” and “Entertainment organization”: male respondents believe that these roles belong to the female sex, and the female part of respondents attribute this role to the male one. This study allows us to expand and generalize the characteristics of familyand marriage relations according to young people.
