The genesis of the concept of the "right of nations to secede" in the Soviet political and legal doctrine

The article examines the evolution of the views of Soviet ideologists on the concept of the right of nations to selfdetermination, the meaning of which was later clarified and designated as the right of nations to independent state existence, the right to secession. The reasons for Stalin’s approach to the right of secession are investigated, taking into account the events taking place in the country and in the world, and the motives for preserving the slogan of the right of nations to secession in the 1936 Constitution of the USSR are evaluated.
