Based on the existing approaches to the interpretation of the essence and meanings of law and morality, the paper provides a historical and philosophical review of the genesis of the concepts under study in order to clarify the logic of their multivariate interpretation. To achieve this goal, the following tasks have been set: to analyze the concepts of law and morality in their relationship with the concept of the law; to consider the history of the formation and development of these concepts. General logical research methods helped to outline the semantic boundaries of concepts in historical retrospect. The systematic approach made it possible to see the epoch-making conditionality of the transformation of the meanings of the correlation between law, morality and the law. The novelty of the conclusions lies in the fact that the authors examine the existing variety of interpretations of the relationship between law and morality in the context of the epochal unity of social groups (large and small). This approach makes it possible to explain the kaleidoscopic nature of social life, undergoing illogical transformations, perceived by a certain part as a norm, by others as pathology, and still others successfully avoid encounters with them.
