The genesis of Swiss euroscepticism

In the article, the author tries to explain of the basic matters for rejection by majority of the Swiss the very idea to join European Union as its member. Euro-integration means for Switzerland not only shortening opportunities of their referendum democracy that threaten their loss of national identity, but also may cause undesirable transformation towards European cosmopolitan political institutional practices. The author connects the genesis of Swiss Euroscepticism first of all with adherence of the Swiss to national political institutions, the idea of keeping political neutrality in regard to any European alliances, strict following the theory and practice of federalism and democracy by means of referendums, that are untypical for the rest of European countries.
