The genesis of Chinese higher education system: a social aspect

The study reveals the features of establishing a one-of-a-kind education system in China that is actively reformed today and has been evolved more than five thousand years in line with Orthodox traditions based on the ancient rituals and canons of Kun-tzu (Confucius) teachings. The author highlights the main stages of Confucianism and Neo-Confucianism, the areas for Chinese education development, failure and success of its reforms, defines traditionalism, continuity and consistency as the basic characteristics of education in general. In addition, the study describes the progressive reforms of Chinese education system at that time, in particular following Japanese and Russian models. The education system plays an important role not only as an educational platform for the country’s development but also as the most powerful tool for building ideology and training officials. The paper proves the adaptability of Chinese education system to meet the challenges of a global world.
