This article focuses on the study of the influence of Henry Percy, 6th Earl of Northumberland, on the magistrates of Cumberland and Northumberland. The ability to influence the composition and operation of the justice of the peace commission was a part of the power of an aristocrat in the region. For a long time, the Earl’s father, the 5th Earl of Northumberland was denied a seat on the justice of the peace commission. The 6th Earl was personally inducted into the Cumberland and Northumberland justices of the peace, and his relatives and clients got there. This shows that the Crown perceived the Earl as a loyal aristocrat and was willing to tolerate his hegemony in the region.
