George Belashchenko (1865–1927?), an artist, a student of V. Makovsky and V. Polenov, a graduate of St. Petersburg Academy of Arts (1895). He participated in the painting of the temple in San Stefano in Istanbul (1898) and the Ascension Cathedral in Novocherkassk (1903-1905). His film “Viy” (1895) influenced A. Rodchenko, a famous constructivist and photographer, to become an artist. After the revolution of 1917 Belashchenko came to the Far East and worked as an art teacher in Nikolaevsk-on-Amur. His last refuge was Blagoveshchensk (1920) where he became one of the first art teachers of Blagoveshchensk Art and Industrial School.
