The paper describes characteristics of a hermetic vessel dated to the end ofthe 12th - first half of the 13th century from Pereyaslavl' Ryazanskiy. The mouth of thecrucible was covered with a cloth and plastered with a clay coat, which served as a lid.Regarding its morphological traits, the vessel is very different from all known crucibles. No comparable analogies to this artifact have been found in Russian or West Europeanpublications. Textile impressions on ceramic vessels used for technical purposes havebeen found before, but such vessels were used in other metal working processes. Mostlikely, the design of the crucible was dictated by a need to create specific conditions insideit and was appropriate for making granulation.
