The article presents the results of empirical study of the features of the development of professional-psychological characteristics of the future teachers of informatics, mathematics and physics in the process of vocational training in higher school. The starting point for the study was the view of scientists on professional-psychological characteristics as an internal condition for the development of competences in higher education in the context of the competence approach. The set of professional-psychological characteristics, considered in a competent format, was, on the one hand, coordinated with the competencies formulated in the Federal state educational standard of higher education, on the other hand, with the requirements in a specific educational space where graduates of the university are to work in the long term. The heterochronic character of their changes is shown. Heterochronicity is manifested in the non-coinciding rates of development of these characteristics relative to each other. So, at different stages of the educational process some can progress, others can be in relative stabilization or even demonstrate regress. The research opens prospects for improving educational practice in higher school, aimed at the development of professional competences of future subject teachers.
